Aurora Anti-Litter Campaign will be kicked off on April 30, 2005 from 4-6pm at the Aurora Town Park. If you would like to volunteer, call Info Aurora at 905-727-8214.

Registration and Litter Pick-up Kits will also be available for volunteers at the Town booth at the Aurora Home Show throughout the weekend of April 22-24.

Volunteers will be picking up litter throughout the day on Saturday, April 30 and will then gather at Aurora Town Park for the Volunteer Appreciation BBQ hosted by M&M Meats, Toppers Pizza and Macs Convenience Stores.

Shadowpath Theatre Productions is currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers interested in one or more of the following areas:

  • Marketing

Shadowpath is happy to provide work references and authorize
community volunteer hours for high-school students who devote a little
of their time

Fine Arts in York Region March 23, 2006

York Region is looking for talented fine artists to showcase at York
Region Newspaper Group’s Celebration of the Arts. Bursaries will be
awarded to the best applicates to help them further their artistic
ambitions.

Over the last five years, 68 bursaries have been awarded.

Applicants must be residents of York Region. There are discipline categories for Dance, Instrumental, Theatre Arts and Vocal.

The
Town of Newmarket, Parks, Recreation and Culture Department, Newmarket
Theatre are putting this event on in association with the York Region
Newspaper Group.

Bob Hartwell Runner’s Challenge: April 9th March 22, 2006

and particpate in the Bob Hartwell Runner's Challenge on April 9th.
This will be the 5th year that this annual challenge has commenced;
Started in 2002, the Bob Hartwell Runner's Challenge was organized to
celebrate the spirit and life of the late Bob Hartwell, an Aurora
businessman, civic leader and marathon runner. He died on October 14,
2001 while running a Marathon.

Half-marathon, 2 person half-marathon relay, 5km, children's merry mini mile.

You can register online, in person, through the mail, or on race day (between 7-8:30am ONLY).

Counsellors in Training (C.I.T.) March 21, 2006

The town of Aurora is looking for teens ages 14 to 15 who are
interested in becoming a Counsellor in Training. Applicants must have
some experience dealing with children or be a graduate of the L.I.T.
program (highly recommended). Focus is on programming, special events,
theme days, leadership skills and being a member of a staff team.

These volunteering hours can count toward community service requirement hours.

Guns & Gangs Strategy: Police & Youth March 15, 2006

Newmarket Girl With Eco-Friendly Ambitions February 4, 2006

17 year old Sacred Heart student Kate Gardner gathered a 200 strong petition of other students to fight for the approval of ecologically progressive developments in Newmarket. With her perseverence, the go-ahead has been given for a project of 34 “green” homes.

A first of it’s kind project for builders Rodeo Fine homes, the homes will be from 2,200 to 3,400 square feet and start at $500,000 with geothermal heating systems.

A federal candidates’ debate at her school marked the first time Kate heard about the proposal; when she later read that the initial tender had been rejected by the town, she decided to do something about it.
